Throwing animals on pieces of clothes is no novel concept—and may create imagery of a shirt your grandmother might give you. Nevertheless, Tory Burch has transformed this practice into a striking display of edgy elegance.

The Resort 2024 collection showcases sleek basics elevated by delightful surprises that breathe life into the collection. Pleated trousers, structured blazers, and long pleated skirts serve as the sophisticated canvas for the collection’s playful elements to shine.

Adding a touch of intrigue and storytelling, angry cat and bunny faces in black and white grace select pieces of the collection. The prints are by, the German photographer, Walter Schels, known for capturing animals in heroic, almost-human portraits. 

Far from being kitschy, these animal motifs infuse the garments with a perfect balance of edge and sophistication. Animal inspiration extends beyond clothing to the Resort 2024 accessories, with the Lee Radziwill Double Bag featuring a fluffy cow print.

There is an obvious inspiration from the ballet. With flowing silhouettes, Balletic tulle creates movement and soft volume. The tulle is structured in a way that molds to the curves, gracefully flowing from the hips and cascading into pleats that elegantly cuff at the bottom.

Playful belts, adorned with stud details that mimic reptilian scales, accentuate the collection. These metal studs also grace the face of a halter top, adding a touch of attitude.  

Although a small aspect of the collection, one of the more eye-catching details of the collection was the matchstick-inspired pieces. The two sets of matchstick earrings—one with an unburned match and the other cascading down the ear, charred—create a captivating juxtaposition. Another set features glass sticks, untouched and in front of glass teardrops. 

Aspects from Tory Burch’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection come to play in the new Resort 2024 collection, particularly through designs that divide the body into three sections: a sheer top, an opaque skirt, and a sheer extension to the skirt. While some looks execute this concept precisely, other variations explore the art of sectioned body designs, showcasing Tory Burch’s intrigue in the womanly body.

Last Spring/Summer 2023 collection allowed Tory Burch to challenge the maximalistic nature of trends today, but this Resort 2024 collection shows that the minimalistic Tory Burch aesthetic is in a state of transformation.
