Tour Diary: Amaarae Takes “Black Star” to Primavera Sound 2026

The Ghanaian-American artist enters a new chapter with “Black Star,” a historic Coachella appearance and a rapidly expanding global audience
As Amaarae continued her Black Star era, the Ghanaian-American artist brought her genre-defying sound to some of the world’s biggest stages. Fresh off a historic Coachella debut that made her the first Ghanaian artist to perform at the festival, she arrived at Primavera Sound Barcelona amid a career-defining run. Following the release of her third studio album, Black Star, Amaarae built on the momentum of projects like Fountain Baby, blending Afropop, Alté, R&B, rap, and electronic influences into a bold and boundary-pushing musical style. The album marked a major new chapter in her career, accompanied by sold-out performances, major festival appearances, and a rapidly growing global audience.
V followed along as Amaarae took Black Star around the world. First stop: Primavera Sound 2026 in Barcelona!

“The beat was too tea”

“The girls were oilllllllllllled up! In the car on the way to the stage to give them a SHOW”

“DIVA!”
“F U 2”

“The least fun part is getting the mic pack on to intricate outfits. MVP goes out to Chase cus somehow he figures it out everytime.”

“Final touches. You have no idea how many hands can be on an artist’s body at any given time when we’re getting ready for a show. Hair, makeup, someone’s putting on your shoes, someone’s helping with your top, taping your boobs down!”

“All smiles”

“Love to Miista for the shoes. Super comfortable and great for stage!”

“Beri & Ola made this custom look from Miss 60 shirts and an Ottolinger Bra. I have huge boobs, so keeping them intact while I’m on stage is always paramount. We do 6-8 hour technical fittings with a tailor on site to make sure everything is custom-made to my body, flattering from all angles, and stays intact during performance. I HATE technical fittings, but they are so well worth it, and that’s why looks come out flawless”

“The Squad. Couldn’t do it without these ladies. Ivy on hair, Nneoma on makeup, and Bre handles everything from ground logistics to style logistics & also boop tape MVP”
