For any New Yorker, it’s known that Webster Hall is truly an unforgettable place, as the music venue has hosted some of the world’s biggest performers around since its 1886 debut (and recent reopening in 2019.) Among the newer generation of musicians who have rocked the halls of the famed space is Chinese-American musician Sunkis, the pop-meets-R&B crooner who recently performed at the venue this week, belting out his biggest tracks to date such as “LAST GOODBYE”, “Top Tier”, and “trust me.”
Currently serving as the opening act for K-Pop Star BM‘s After The After Party US Tour and following the release of his newest single “All For You” before the arrival of his debut US project this year, the San Francisco native took VMAN along for his busy day as we followed him from meetings to photoshoots to main stage and more.

“Woke up at the Arlo Hotel to an incredible view of the city. I love staying in Williamsburg when I come to New York, it has a great vibe and lots of cute spots to walk to in the mornings. Always a great start to my day, especially a busy one like this one.”

“After a big breakfast, I had a call with my team to touch base on plans for the day. I had a fitting for a photo shoot yesterday with a clothing brand I’ve been obsessed with recently called Private Policy, who set me up with multiple looks for my NY show. I’m hitting the studio before the photo shoot to finish up a new song I’ve been working on, and then I’m off to shoot new press photos before heading to the venue for the show.”

“Recorded in the famous Clive Davis studio in Manhattan, some of the biggest artists in the world like Taylor Swift have recorded here and I love the creative atmosphere. Always like to find time to get some studio work in here when I come to New York and was really excited to wrap up recording this new song I wrote recently. This is also the face I make after recording for over an hour and realizing how much of a day I still had left…”

“This is Michelson on my team getting me ready to go for the photo shoot. I take every aspect of my artist project really seriously, especially making sure we can capture the right vibe with photos and content.”

“This was probably the 200th photo I’d shot and still had a long way to go, but was loving this new fit from Private Policy. They pulled some really unique pieces and I’d planned to also use this as a post-show look for the meet & greet.”

“Got to rep another incredible fit from Private Policy for my set, this is from the song ‘4ever’ in my set where I get to slow it down a bit and come down off stage to connect more with the crowd. This is the first chance in the show to really push my vocal, and based on the first chorus I knew the rest of the show was gonna be a good one”

“This crowd in New York was LOUD…the energy was pretty special. I’ve spent a lot of time in New York but never played a show here, and the crowd was so energetic and excited to sing my songs back to me. Had some pretty special moments up there doing what I love most.”

“Took some time after the show to regroup in the green room and change into my outfit for the meet and greet. Was nice to get some time to rest and regroup, but I’m always so excited to get out to the merch booth and meet fans.”

“The fans I’ve met throughout my shows this year are some of the nicest people and it’s always so humbling and encouraging to hear all their kind words and excitement about my music. They keep it fun too and I had the best time for over an hour meeting so many of them.”

“Everyone who knows me knows I LOVE to eat. My dad is an incredible chef and food has always been a big deal in our family, and I was so excited that they’d made the trip out here from San Francisco to watch me perform. We all went out to a late dinner after the show and they surprised me with this fun menu and one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. It was a very long but memorable day and I’m so appreciative of the incredible team and support system I have around me who help make it all happen. Thanks for following along with my day :)”
