Tyrell Hampton Releases “Go Home” Exhibition With SN37
Tyrell Hampton reveals his newest exhibit at SN37’s first not-for-profit gallery in New York City.
SN37 welcomes their first not-for-profit gallery at the Seaport in New York City. In celebration of their opening, SN37 will showcase photographer and filmmaker Tyrell Hampton’s newest exhibit, Go Home—a nod to his transition into city life as a teenager.
On par with Hampton’s signature style, the show features black and white images of partygoers to represent his experience in the hustle and bustle of NYC. These images, captured between 2016 and the present, celebrate community and Hampton’s love for dancing. Just as the photographs show, Hampton views navigating through the dark inside a club as choreography since you are moving around to your own rhythms.
Go Home echoes Hampton’s previous work, which is all about movement, life and capturing subjects in moments of joy—all representations of what it means to be young and spontaneous. He has previously worked with notable names in pop culture, including Lizzo, Dua Lipa and Miley Cyrus, as well as renowned fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Coach and Calvin Klein.
Besides Hampton himself, SN37 represents a multitude of renowned image-makers: Shaniqwa Jarvis, Adrienne Raquel, Luke Gilford, Charlotte Rutherford and Micaiah Carter. Their newest space, alongside The Howard Hughes Corporation, will help foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports that arts community in Lower Manhattan. With each exhibition, SN37 will donate the proceeds to the organization of their artists’ choosing. For Hampton’s exhibit, all proceeds will be donated to the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation.
Hampton’s show will be on view from Nov. 20th, 2021 to Jan. 9th, 2022. Explore the exhibit below.
