While health workers and first responders continue to courageously fight on the front lines of the pandemic, artists and creatives all around have come up with innovative ways to support the heroes and communities in need. Inspired by other creative initiatives like the New York Pictures For Elmhurst, Photographs For The Trussell Trust has brought together British and UK based photographers to raise proceeds for those who have been largely affected by the economic and social crisis as a consequence of the COVID-19 health emergency.
Organized by Alexandra Lesse, Bianca Raggi and Simon Rogers, the initiative is a print sale featuring works from over 100 photographers. The list includes legendary image-makers such as Mark Borthwick, Juergen Teller, Nadine Ijewere, Charlotte Wales, Campbell Addy, Rosie Marks, Lea Colombo, and many more. Prints are priced at £100, with all proceeds going directly to the Trussell Trust which supports two-thirds of food banks across the UK.
“We were inspired by the monumental success of the Italian 100 Fotografi per Bergamo initiative and the American Pictures for Elmhurst – both in terms of the communities they brought together and the funds they raised. We realised we had the ability to make something similar happen here,” stated Rogers. Pictures of Elmhurt was overwhelmingly successful, raising $1.3 million in sales.
