First, you knew him as Drew Holt on Parenthood, then even more so as Alex Standall on Netflix's monumental smash series 13 Reasons Why. And because of the familiarity of those two characters, people are wanting to get to know Miles Heizer as Miles Heizer as well. Up next, Heizer will play Cal in the much anticipated coming-of-age film Love, Simon, which follows a 17-year-old closeted gay boy who has fallen in love online. Fitting, as people continue to fall in love with Heizer to the tune of over 2.7 million followers on Instagram. Below, the 23-year-old answered some quick-hitters as one of V's Class of 2018 members.

What's your vision for the industry you work in for 2018?

I’d like to see people in it stop abusing their power.

What's the best advice you've ever received and why?

To quit pointing out insecurities I have about myself. Someone told me that no one is noticing them until I bring them up so there’s no point in doing it!

What social/political issues or causes resonate with you most, and why?

I’ve learned a lot about mental health in the past couple of years and the way it tends to be misrepresented. I think it affects almost everyone so it’s important to remove the idea that struggling with it means something bad about yourself.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far? How did you overcome it?

I get depressed pretty easily but have found the best way to combat it is to surround yourself with people you can talk openly with about it. I used to suppress all my feelings and it doesn’t do anybody any good.

How did you get your start?

I did some really bad plays at a children’s theater in Kentucky where I’m from and went from there.

How do you define success for yourself? Is it different than happiness?

I’d say they’re the same for me. If I’m happy then I’m doing alright.

When and where do you feel most creative?

Making music. That’s how I spend most of my free time.

Who is your dream collaborator, in any field (music, art, fashion, etc.) and what kind of project would you love to do with this person?

I’d love to work with Tweet. She’s my favorite singer and I’d love to do a song with her even though she’s out of my league.

Where do you want to be professionally in 5 years? In 10 years?

I’d just like to be making things I like with my friends.

What is the most enjoyable part of your job(s)?

Probably the people I’ve met. I’ve made most of my friends at work and they always make it fun to be there.
