Georgia Votes: Precious Lee

The Atlanta-bred model is here for major change.

As a sequel to our V127 voting initiative, V Magazine and photography duo, Inez & Vinoodh reunite once more to bring a new roster of leaders who are raising awareness about the Georgia Senate runoff elections.

Precious Lee was always meant to leave an impact in this world. The Atlanta native dreamed of becoming a lawyer until a friend dragged her to an open call at the age of 18, launching her modeling career. By 2016, she had become the first Black plus-size model on the pages of Vogue US, and also the first to be featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

Now with over 150,000 followers on Instagram, she uses her influence to speak against racial injustice and to advocate for more race and size diversity in the fashion and entertainment industries. “I gravitate toward the words of Black women that are unapologetically empowering,” she told us in October. “I just think that Black women who are putting out creative work right now to expand—[must] find out, ‘How I can further a space for not just myself, but for the collective?’”

Registration

The last day of registration to vote in the Georgia Run-Off Senate Election is Dec.7th and you can simply do so online – it takes just two minutes!

Early Voting

Early voting for the January runoff starts on December 14, 2020, and you can check your county’s elections website for polling place locations and hours.

Absentee Voting

You can also vote absentee for the Georgia Senate runoff.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is December 15th.

To do so you can complete this application online (you’ll need your county, state ID number, birth date, and legal name). You can also fill out this PDF and return it to your county board of registrars via mail or email.

Absentee ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, January 5. Request and send your ballot sooner rather than later. Georgia state law says that absentee ballots can be requested through the Friday before the election, but for the January 5 runoff, that Friday is New Year’s Day, so you’ll want to plan ahead for this election. You can also drop off your ballot at an official county drop box up until 7 p.m. on Election Day. Check your county’s election website for details and dropbox locations.

Election Day

If you’d like to vote in-person for this election, just make sure you’re registered and plan out your Election Day plan so you have the time to go and vote on January 5th, 2021. Find your local polling station here, and remember how important it is to exercise your right to vote!
