V Premiere: Petite Meller, Aeroplane

Listen the new upbeat single “Aeroplane” by mega—or should we say meta— artist Petite Meller. The song precedes the French singer’s next full-length album.

To describe Petite Meller as a musician wouldn’t be fair. She’s much more than that. She’s a musician who doubles as a degree-certified philosopher, visual artist, fashion icon and model, in that order.

In her personal essay, Meller told V that her ear is the compass which leads to her lauded aesthetic. The complexities of philosophy frequent her lyrics, sometimes via the musings of Tarkovsky, other times through the dialogue of Hitchcock. Regardless of which philosopher worked his way into Meller’s lyrics, the sounds and instrumentation to which they are sung are what ultimately inspire the vision behind the artist’s imaginative music videos.

Today, the “Baby Love” singer released her new single “Aeroplane.” The song opens with a mellow acoustic guitar behind the vocals of a flight attendant giving her before-takeoff spiel. As the intro concludes, the song transitions into an upbeat, eclectic, foot-tapping tune. Meller maintains this driving tempo throughout the song.

“I wrote it while I was on an ‘Aeroplane,’ traveling to record my new album,” Meller told V.  “I went on my own to Rio de Janeiro to write with local producers I met online.”

The impact of working with local producers Bubba and Jocke Åhlund is apparent in the song, and the spontaneity behind the song’s production is characteristic of the French pop singer. Stay tuned, as Petite Meller is currently working on another full-length album.
