Valentino Displays NFT Artworks by Matthew Stone in Soho
The exhibit ends on Friday, June 4.
Valentino is one of the latest fashion labels to join the NFT craze: the house is currently displaying four digital blockchain works by artist Matthew Stone at its Episode SoHo store in New York City. “Soothe,” “Effervescence,” “Kinship,” and “Warmth” are colorful 3D animated paintings that reminisce textured draped fabrics.
Stone is known for his intricate digital paintings printed on linen – a process that starts with real-life painted brushstrokes, resulting in virtual 3D models at the end through special software.
“I have always been bouncing back and forth between digital and physical art-making processes,” the artist said in a press statement. “I am excited to bring moving versions of my paintings into a physical installation so that I can show people the virtual and 3D realms that I hang out in, while making my works.”
Starting on Wednesday, his works will also be featured in the second phase of Valentino Insights on Valentino.com, an interactive 360-degree platform where visitors can experience special digital settings. For this second chapter, Valentino presents a Roman residence hosting an exhibition of Stone’s NFTs, with rooms that dialog with art and the city of Rome. After the users explore the place and collect golden studs, they can unlock an additional room with exclusive content.
NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are unique digital assets that are verified through blockchain technology, giving buyers certificates of authenticity and ownership. They can be bought and sold like any other property and have taken the digital art world by storm. Click here to read more about NFTs.
Matthew Stone’s NFT artworks are on display at Valentino Episode SoHo at 135 Spring Street in New York City until Friday, June 4.
