Change is the only constant in Viktor & Rolf’s Haute Couture Spring/Summer 24 collection. Seven groups of four looks cultivated a story of chaos and couture with each beginning look crafted to perfection followed by a trio of garments, with intentional holes and slashes based off the primary look. Imperfections and mistakes are utilized to show that they can be opportunities to rethink the typical rules of design and the need for new.
As each set of four came down the runway more distressed than the next, a new garment rose from the ashes of the first. With models walking one by one until they made their way in unison down the runway to showcase a side by side progression, every detail of the garments were intentional in an effort to achieve “controlled chaos”. Each hole allows for a unique reveal of the skin or undergarment which creates unexpected, dynamic looks.
From suits to ballgowns, the scissors did not discriminate in making sure every silhouette received some hacking. While the offerings varied, all of the pieces were shown in black to hone in on the shapes and experimentation the designers came up with. After this collection, we will gladly let Viktor & Rolf slash anything in our closet…in the name of fashion, of course.
