April is almost over and time is a construct and I’m having an existential crisis about it. Oh! Happy Friday! This week has been a major week for new releases, following a dramatic Coachella Weekend 1 and of course, one of spring’s best holidays, 4/20. From a haunting and ethereal new single by Florence + The Machine to a deep house cut from Omar S, this week has a bit of something for everyone. Whether you’re setting off to the beach for the weekend or rather continuing yesterday’s festivities alone in your bedroom, V have you covered with a host of new releases that are sure to keep you busy.

Gus Dapperton with BENEE, “Don’t Let Me Down”

In their first collaboration since BENEE’s 2020 quarantine pop-hit, “Supalonely,” Gus Dapperton and BENEE are back at it again with equal parts groovy and melancholy single, “Don’t Let Me Down.” The infectiously produced single is the third off of Dapperton’s upcoming July album release, HENGE, which will be his major label album debut with Warner Records. Along with the release of the track, Dapperton and BENEE star in a music video for “Don’t Let Me Down,” set in a 1930’s adjacent dim-lit jazz club. This new era for Dapperton is a renaissance of sorts for the musician, experimenting with his sound by toying his indie roots into a booming and invigorating pop-infused era.

Kim Petras with Nicki Minaj, “Alone”

Kim Petras is a pop star who wants nothing less than world domination. After the success of her feature on Sam Smith’s “Unholy” and her hyperpop single “brrr” released earlier this year, Petras has tapped Nicki Minaj to feature in a track that samples Alice Deejay’s eurodance classic, “Better Off Alone.” The sample here is not without purpose; as the hit was a song Petras would blare as she danced around in her childhood bedroom in order to escape her problems. Today, Petras’ reclamation of the dance hit is an infectious pop banger, made even more delicious via Minaj’s verse.

Florence + The Machine, “Mermaids”

A year after their critically acclaimed 2022 album Dance Fever, Florence + The Machine have released a deluxe version of the album, featuring new song “Mermaids” as well as poem versions of a selection of songs from the original album. “Mermaids” is a haunting and punching track, where Florence’s ethereal voice floats along with nail-biting lyrics such as, “I thought that I was hungry for love / Maybe I was just hungry for blood / Sea foam woman on the shore / Your prairie ghost, I’m a cottage whore.” Major! Quick aside; Florence Welch if you’re not busy this weekend do you think we could go run barefoot in the woods together?

Bree Runway with Khalid, “Be The One”

Bree Runway is a pop musician that deserves nothing but the greatest successes the world has to offer her. Her releases are relentless in their dedication to defying all bounds of genre, and have quickly cemented the artist with a cult-following. Today, Runway released “Be The One,” as a hazy R&B love-drenched track featuring Khalid. “This collaboration is special to me for more than one reason; I’m obsessed with this song; our voices marry together perfectly,” shares Runway. “It magically came together from a hangout in the studio; I love Khalid for his light and his incredible character, I’m really proud to call him a friend, and now musical collaborator.”

Omar S and Alister Fawnwoda, “I Love Your Girlfriend” (Long Mix) feat. John F.M.

Underground techno music legend Omar S and fellow Detroit-based DJ and producer Alister Fawnwoda have released the extended long mix of their standout track featuring John F.M., “I Love Your Girlfriend.” After being released on Omar S’s EP, PAIN, which dropped earlier this month, the long mix gives the listener room to bask in the infectious house sound that the musician has become revered for. The infamously reclusive musician started his career in 2003, and twenty years later it’s quite clear he has his finger on the pulse of the musicsphere, releasing a smash-track that is sure to go down as a house music fan-favorite.

Connie Diiamond, “Pose”

Hailing from the Bronx and destined for musical prowess, Connie Diiamond is back with a banger in new single, “Pose.” Diamond is no stranger to delivering verses with a thrilling punch, as evidenced in her newest release where she asserts herself as a force to be reckoned with. “I just want people to view me as an overall creator — not just a phenomenal female rapper,” shares Diiamond on the release. “I just want to be a phenomenal artist overall.”

TiaCorine with Latto, “FreakyT (Remix)”

Tapping Latto for a remix on her hit track “FreakyT,” the song just got even freakier. The release comes fresh after Latto brought out TiaCorine for her Coachella weekend one set. With lyrics like, “Bitches weak in the knees, in them tweets, on them beats, diamonds twitchin’ like they cap, hold my wrist up, make ’em freeze,” Latto’s verse adds an undeniable extra spark to TiaCorine’s already red-hot track.

RAYE with Coi Leray, “Flip A Switch (Remix)”

Ever since the release of her album, My 21st Century Blues, in February, RAYE has become a fast wildfire of musical success. Today, her standout track “Flip A Switch” just got an upgrade with a feature from genre-bending rapper, Coi Leray. The deep bass R&B track features a verse from Leray, who effortlessly spits “we got pretty bitch energy, that’s why they hate us.”

iann dior, leave me where you found me

On leave me where you found me, iann dior’s fifth album the musician continues to blur the lines between alt-rock and hip-hop. The 24-year old is propelled by his own angst-adjacent confidence on the album, opening up the project with “my turn,” a song where dior puts himself at center stage with lyrics like, “they told me wait my turn, but I need it right now / Everything that I got, I earned, you decide to come around.” After the release of singles “10×3” and “do it all,” which have already amassed millions of streams, it’s clear that dior is headstrong in his pursuit of genre-blurring excellence.

Latto, “Put It On Da Floor”

Latto is staying booked and busy! After performing at Coachella last weekend and featuring on TiaCorine’s remix of “FreakyT” which was also released today, the Grammy nominated rapper put out her own single, “Put It On Da Floor.” The song was teased at the aforementioned Coachella set, where Latto left fans anxiously awaiting the song to hit streaming services.

Vic Mensa with G-Eazy and Chance The Rapper, “$WISH”

Vic Mensa’s second single of the year is an upbeat hip-hop banger where he confidently reflects upon all of his excesses alongside his close industry friends G-Eazy and Chance The Rapper. “‘$WISH’ came from a writing camp me & Chance did in LA working on a bunch of music together,” shares Mensa on the release. “It was really just a fun, spontaneous vibe. Me & Bongo were freestyling and then Chance said he had a line so I just recorded him putting his verse together. G-Eazy is one of my best friends in the industry and someone I’ve known for probably 12 years, so it just all made sense.

Bebe Rexha with Snoop Dogg, “Satelite”

Bebe Rexha’s newest track is a tongue-in-cheek banger that is a tried and true ode to stoners, celebrating 4/20. Over an uber-funky production, Rexha sings, “last night I got higher than a satellite / I took a one-way ticket, it’s a one-man mission to paradise.” The track features rap legend Snoop Dogg, whose infectious verse is sure to cement the song as a 4/20 classic.
