As the new year continues to kick off, artists across genres are releasing in full swing – between new singles from pop darlings Maggie Lindemann and Allie X, indie-alternative newcomer Tish Melton, Broadway powerhouse Jasmine Cephas-Jones, and more, this week’s new releases are sure to instantly impress listeners. Add these tracks to your January playlist for an incredible soundtrack to your cozy winter wonderland!
Maggie Lindemann, “hostage”
Following her 2022 debut album SUCKERPUNCH accompanied by the deluxe version in late 2023, Maggie Lindemann is entering 2024 with a new confidence – and a sold-out world tour along with over 200 million streams under her belt. “hostage,” Lindemann’s first release of the year, chronicles the feelings of being trapped inside your own mind. The haunting track and accompanying music video provide an introspective window into the artist’s own internal conflicts.
UMI, “talking to the wind”
Seattle-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, hitmaker, and pioneer UMI is back with her latest project talking to the wind. The four-track EP showcases UMI’s unique sound – genre-bending with central elements of R&B and folk – and cements her as an artist to watch this year. Her name – “ocean” in Japanese – is a gorgeous testament to her artistry and deep examination of the human experience.
Allie X, “Off With Her Tits”
The always-evolving Allie X is back with the 80s-inspired, retro-glam pop hit “Off With Her Tits” – the latest release from her forthcoming album Girl With No Face out February 23. The record also features previously-released tracks “Black Eye” along with the album’s title track, “Girl With No Face.” In true Allie X fashion, she’s reinvented herself yet again, and fans are anxiously awaiting to see her newest era in full form next month!
Jasmine Cephas-Jones, “Brighter (feat. Kevin Garrett)”
Jasmine Cephas-Jones became a household name in 2016 following her critically-acclaimed performance in the roles of Maria Reynolds and Peggy Schuyler in the original Broadway cast of Hamilton. Now, the Grammy and Emmy Award-winning singer, songwriter, actress, and producer is ushering in an exciting musical chapter with her new single “Brighter (feat. Kevin Garrett).” With R&B instrumentals and powerhouse vocals, the track emphasizes Cephas-Jones’ journey of self-discovery. The release is accompanied by a stunning short film, depicting a sunset on a western ranch.
Tish Melton, “Damage”
17-year-old rising singer-songwriter Tish Melton is just getting started – after previously releasing two singles produced by her musical mentor, Grammy-winner Brandi Carlile, Melton is back with her third single “Damage,” a heart-wrenching track depicting the desperation of being willing to accept mistreatment in exchange for attention. Melton’s vulnerable vocals along with a stunning piano melody draw listeners in as she sings – “Take me for granted, I’ve planned it / I’m equipped to handle your damage.” Melton’s debut EP is out March 1.
