VTMNTS SS23 Show Introduces a Non-Binary Collection
VTMNTS is here to remind you that fitting in is out, and standing out is in
First debuting his new brand back in March, the creative mind of Guram Gvalalia is back- and he did not disappoint. This time he returns with a strong message about gender equality.
This show was all about tapping into your true sense of self. VTMNTS was made for all genders, regardless of the tailoring or silhouettes, each garment is made to look good on anyone. Gvasalia wanted his models to feel proud and true to themselves during the show, which is why he let them decide what to wear and how to walk.
“Walk the way you feel like walking, fast, slow, just be yourself, run if you want to or channel your inner-Naomi,” says Gvasalia.
Being a child of war and a refugee, Gvasalia came from very little and had to work twice as hard to get his brand to the luxury level. His mission is to remind the younger generation that success lies within all of us, regardless of our background.
As the light shined through the cracks of the concrete ceiling, the space gave the resemblance of a church, not in a religious context, but rather as a place of true belonging where you feel safe to be yourself. With many brands focusing on womenswear separate from menswear, VTMNTS introduced their own non-binary wear line for anyone to wear. “The world is changing,” Gvasalia notes, “and so should fashion!”
One common theme throughout the collection was cropped tailoring; jackets, hoodies, knits, and puffer jackets. Cropped everything stands for “cropping the bullshit” as Gvasalia puts it. With a push for new minimalism, it’s time for the new generation to cut off the unnecessary.
Can’t decide which look to wear today? Gvasalia doesn’t think you should have to decide- just wear both. For the days you’re feeling a little more dramatic, double up on waistbands, strong padded shoulders, cropped puffers, and pants because wearing one look just isn’t enough.
Everything in this collection is aimed to be anti-uniform. Clothing shouldn’t be about mass-producing clothes to be clones of one another, it should be about finding pieces that frame your personality. While many brands are competing in the luxury market, it’s VTMNTS’s quality production and consistent strive for change that will attract future generations.
