Warby Parker Collaborates With Tyshawn Jones on Sleek Signature Sunglasses
The sunglasses feature the skater’s take on a sleek checkerboard design
Warby Parker launches their collaboration with skateboarding pro Tyshawn Jones. The Tyshawn Jones x Warby Parker model came about through a serendipitous mix of location and affiliations.
A visit by Jones to the Warby Parker offices in 2019 led him to a custom, hand-layered checkerboard acetate that their design team had developed over the course of several years. He fell in love with the design and they were able to adapt it onto a signature Warby Parker silhouette, the Harris, in checkered bone and whirlpool.
“When I met with the Warby Parker team at their office, we talked a lot about what the company stands for—and, for me, learning about their “Buy a Pair, Give a Pair” program was what really got me excited to collaborate,” Jones says. The initiative by the brand allows for a pair to be distributed to a person in need with every pair purchased.
Warby Parker is also making a donation to the Albert Einstein School in the Bronx, Jones’ alma mater, which is part of their Pupils Project program, providing free vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses to students throughout the country. Jones’ stylistic aesthetic as a skater, once named Thrasher’s “Skater of the Year,” really shines through the model, a relatively sleek and simple design that features detailed work and indentations upon close inspection.
The Tyshawn Jones x Warby Parker sunglasses are now available on their website and on the Warby Parker app and Instagram shop.
