Watch Kelsey Lu's New Video "Shades of Blue"

Yesterday, Kelsey Lu released the visual for entrancing track “Shades of Blue". The nine minute video is worth every single second—the visuals are as incredible as the song itself, which Lu says was written during a moment when her life was shifting in many ways. She states, “I wrote ‘Shades of Blue' when I was squatting in a leather factory in Hoboken, New Jersey. I was really depressed at the time, and my life had flip-flopped in many ways—musically, financially, romantically and, really, soulfully. Yet, I was writing a lot more than I had been and this song is a manifestation of that point in my life. For me, it was a glimpse of hopefulness and peace from within that depression, and I can only hope it will bring a similar moment of peace to the listener.”

The video begins with a short, soft poem. It then transitions to another song, opening for “Shades of Blue”, then again transitioning with various visuals reminiscent of Solange style performance art. Her style is unique, yet familiar in the way that artists are carving out space for themselves in an unnamed genre. The singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer has collaborated and performed with other musical creatives including Solange, Sampha, Blood Orange, Kelela, and Moses Sumney. Lu has performances lined up for the month of May in Arizona, New York, and Los Angeles, so make sure to add those to your summer concert series.
