What You Missed At Coachella Weekend 1

From special guests to crazy fans, the first of two Coachella weekends was one to remember

A weekend in Palm Springs is just what festival lovers needed, reuniting under the California sun following a two year covid-related hiatus. Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival returned last weekend, April 15-17, with it’s iconic art installations, six stages, and fashion galore. With headliners including Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Swedish House Mafia, and The Weeknd, it’s no surprise that the 3-day festival drew a crowd upwards of 700,000, even after previous headliner Ye dropped out of the lineup earlier this month. If that weren’t enough drama, here is everything you missed during weekend one of California’s hottest music festival.

If you’ve been anywhere near social media this past weekend, you’re sure to have heard about the (arguably) best moment of weekend one: Shania Twain making a surprise appearance during Harry Styles’ Friday night headlining show. The two joined musical forces to sing “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” and “You’re Still the One” in a star-studded performance that is sure to go down in Coachella history.

A weekend in the desert would be incomplete without some comedic relief and crazy fans. According to the Desert Sun, a man attending Saturday night’s Disclosure set successfully strolled past security guards, making his way into the photo pit directly in front of the stage. Upon being ushered out, he changed his approach, army crawling past the same guards before making a run for it and being dragged back to where he belonged…again.

South Korean girl group 2NE1 reunited after six years on Coachella’s main stage. The group, which disbanded in 2015, performed their 2011 hit “I Am The Best” during 88Rising’s Saturday night set., a treat for K-Pop fans everywhere.

Celebrities Go Simple

The pressure to don a carefully curated, fashion-forward fit did not phase Kylie Jenner and Hailey Beiber, who were seen leaving Friday night’s performances with friend Fai Khadra in black leather jackets, white tanks, and baggy jeans. Maybe minimalism will be the new maximalism at fashion’s hottest music festival.

Brockhampton Announces Surprise Album

Brockhampton performed as a group on Saturday before next weekend’s performance marks their last before an indefinite hiatus. Upon leaving the stage, a video of Kevin Abstract meeting with his bandmates cut to a graphic that read: “Final Album. 2022.” For now, we wait.

City Girls Hold Twerk Competition

City Girls know how to put on a show. The duo stunned in a bright red-orange set and custom Marcell Von Berlin boots as they performed hits including “Act Up,” “Twerkulator” and”“Where The Bag At.” As they moved into “Twerk,” JT and Yung Miami divided their background dancers in two, delivering a twerk contest that set the crowd abuzz.
