Drawing inspiration from the magic of multi-hyphenate makeup artist Tyen, bold, electric eyeshadow explodes onto the scene, as muse and model Sherry Shi transforms through the lens of Richard Burbridge and the painterly finesse of Dior Beauty’s makeup maven Sam Visser.
“When conceptualizing the direction for the shoot, Tyen was a point of reference. He has really influenced my work over the years. Richard and I wanted everything to be very excessive— an excessive amount of color, excessive amounts of product, and excessive amounts of texture. Reflecting the world we live in now which is full of excess, we wanted to highlight that [sentiment] with the makeup as well.”—Sam Visser
“I've never met Tyen before, but his work as a photographer and a makeup artist, are both equally as powerful to me. He has been such an influence because he operated in both mediums like I do as well. Also his vision as an artist—I love how he not only made women look so glamorous, so sexy, and beautiful, but he also played with the idea of what makeup could be—he took it places where it hadn't gone yet. And being at Dior, in the time he was, that was really rebellious. Creating pictures like that and doing makeup like that was something that I hadn't really seen before.”—Sam Visser
