Y/Project Gets Sporty For Spring/Summer 2022

The new collection features a collaboration with Fila.

Y/Project’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection taps on comfort, athleisure, and, in a way, a connection with nature. The lineup was presented with a short film directed by Grégoire Dyer, which sees models following a “Y”-shaped path in a set reminiscent of Dyer’s idea for the label’s Fall/Winter show earlier this year.

This time, the stage looks brighter, with shades of blue and green giving it a feeling of going outside while also nodding to sports courts. The peaceful mood is enhanced with the soundtrack, provided by Senjan Jansen, which features the sounds of chirping birds and even the crackling effect of vinyl.

Some pieces feature the ruffled effect that appeared throughout the F/W 21 set, this time with more fluidity, giving them a freer-to-move aspect. Knits have their moment in this lineup, including designs like a cable-knit sweater with twisted and braided details at the collar and a green top that features a similar effect.

For this season, creative director Glenn Martens played with dissection and showing off more skin: several designs feature cutout shapes, such as details at the collar or pockets. A highlight is the pair of jeans with shiny cutout details at the legs, giving it an armor-like appearance. Other pieces come in transparent or sheer materials, such as the white asymmetrical top with a plastic covering at the front.

The palette features neutral and earthy tones, along with a special selection of greens and some spots of bright yellow and lighter tones of pink and blue: a mint robe-like dress, a seaweed-green leather coat paired with a lilac knit dress, a light blue suit with dangling details, and a fluffy candy-cotton pink cardigan are some of the most eye-catching colorful pieces. Soft materials are used throughout, including what appears to be velour tops, dresses, and blouses.

The collection also features a collaboration with Fila, adding a sporty air to it. The lineup includes the sportswear brand’s signature logo bands and colors along with Y/Project’s motifs and signature shapes. Sweatsuits appear “reconstructed” with sleeves and legs in different sizes, and oversized pieces that fall meticulously on the wearer. Highlights include the bright red ensemble and the cutout red top and skirt set.

Accessories include oversized earpieces with leaf-like and floral motifs – matching with some shoes and other details – along with giant bedazzled “Y” earrings. Belts also feature sleek, symmetrical golden “Y”s. One of the handbag models, featured in bubblegum pink and neon yellow, looked as if they were carefully crunched.
