Yeehaw: Lil Nas X Releases Old Town Road Video
Lil Nas X channels Butch Cassidy in newly dropped cinematic gold.
“Old Town Road,” an up-tempo riff on a country standard, simultaneously catapulted the 19-year-old rapper Lil Nas X into mainstream stardom, and revived the bad-boy image of the source material’s author, Billy Ray Cyrus.
Already inescapable on radio and your IG explore tab, the meme-friendly track just got an extra boost of song-of-the-summer cache, thanks to a much-anticipated music video hitting the internet just today. A star-studded visual, the 5-minute vid offers comic relief and yeehaw energy in spades.
In an on-brand nod to the spaghetti western, Nas X is seen as a bank-robbing bandit, evading capture from sheriffs before making a pit-stop to catch up with O.G. cowboy Billy Ray Cyrus. The reunion is cut short by an ensuing chase, which leads Nas X to a hole that transports him to 2019. Decked-out in snazzy cowboy gear, he leaves the “old town” for the modern city streets.
