Yohji Yamamoto and adidas launch exclusive Y-3 Atelier Collection
Sportswear to take an avant-garde route
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the creative partnership between Yohji Yamamoto and adidas, Y-3 launched Y-3 Atelier – the latest expression of their rebellious imagination. This season, the label reimagined some of Yohji Yamamoto’s runway collection patterns through a new lens. The result is the continuum of the interlacing of sportswear and innovation.Once again, adidas and Yohji Yamamoto break away from the average and the ordinary, encouraging the reframing of avant-garde designs. Y-3 Atelier offers them a space to experiment with elements from opposite realms, combining the comfort and poise of activewear with pioneering ideas. At the center of this collaboration, there’s a mutual care for craftsmanship. Their creative process arises from the Japanese phrase Monozukuri – making things – which highlights Yamamoto’s ambition to surrender to the creative process with dedication and method. Each piece of Y-3 Atelier reflects Yamamoto and adidas’ departure from traditional expectations. This inaugural collection embraces both Yamamoto’s quintessential sketches and the German brand’s iconic three stripes. Dresses are designed with maxi proportions and asymmetrical lines, trench coats enclose the label’s practicality and a leading-edge artistic eye, and the famous Three Stripes spiral around the body calling attention to its dynamism. To capture the occasion, Y-3 has partnered with favorite Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama who set the campaign at the renowned Shibuya restaurant – Narukiyo Izakaya. Y-3 Atelier was available exclusively in a pop-up retail and exhibition space in Paris hosted by SSENSE on March 2nd and 3rd.
