Zadig & Voltaire Host Surprise Homecoming Show for Fall/Winter 2022

The new collection is rooted in contemporary retro looks.

Zadig & Voltaire surprised everyone with an off-calendar show in Paris, just ahead of the city’s Men’s Fashion Week. The show presented the women’s Fall/Winter 2022 ready-to-wear collection, which will hit stores on July 1.

The show, which took place at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, represented a long-awaited return to Zadig & Voltaire’s hometown after five years of showing in New York and working on brand expansion overseas.

The collection, which was filled with contemporary nods to ’60s fashion, was influenced by the social movements of the late ’60s, most notably protests against state militaries, racial unrest, and calls for social liberation. Designer Cecilia Bonstrom evoked the decade by incorporating oversized jackets, wide trousers, sequins, and lace.

Bursts of color contrasted by muted blacks and full suede looks littered the show, and thick denim looks paired with shearling vests and chunky knits highlighted the retro inspiration. However, true to their style, the collection never strayed too far from the modern, effortlessly cool vibe that the brand has carefully curated over the years.

If last year’s Fall/Winter collection was a celebration of contemporary styles, this year’s was all about modernizing timeless trends. As the brand is seeking to reinvent itself after years away from home, they are moving away from the camo and animal prints of 2021. The 2022 collection feels more like a staple collection, filled with elevated basics complete with extra elements of sparkle and lace, along with a few standout pieces.

The end result is a highly wearable collection, with pieces for every occasion.”The pieces are meant to be experienced,” the brand said in a statement. “To be lived in and worn out.”
