The annals of Kate Moss’s participation in the late-night party scene go back decades, a long and winding road of star-studded fetes, little black dresses and skinny cigarettes. Now, for the first time in over ten years, Moss makes her personal style available to all in her debut collection for Zaraーdubbed the “party capsule.”

The campaign, shot by photographers (and Moss’s longtime collaborators) Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, is an ode to the unkempt glamor and laissez-faire attitude of the classic party girl.

But first, let’s rewind a bit. It’s 1993, September in London, and Elite Model Agency is throwing its ‘Look of the Year’ party, where fashion-forward revelers scout out thousands of contestants from all around the world. A 19-year old Kate Moss is in attendance, and her diaphanous bias-cut dress sends shockwaves through the room. The transparent slip would go down in fashion history as one of the most iconic party looks of all time and the onset of Kate Moss’s remarkably lucrative career as a supermodel. For years to come, Moss would don slinky chainmail numbers and iterations of the little black dress, gradually assembling the party girl wardrobe in a mixture of functional pieces and foxy fundamentals.

In all her effortless elegance and flowing magnetism, Kate Moss as a party girl makes her guidance in the new collection wholly felicitous. The line, designed with Katy England, features a range of classic pieces from Moss’s own archive, building off party pillars like Studio 54, the disco zeitgeist of the 70s, and the rock ’n’ roll tenets of bands like Led Zeppelin. The capsule intends to lead the wearer from day to night with fashionable ease.

Moss also looks to Charlotte Rampling, actress and icon of the Swinging Sixties, as well as Lauren Hutton, the fresh-faced model endeared by her signature gap-tooth for inspiration. Laser cut dresses in cream and black and bias-cuts in tribute to Moss’s own iconic ensembles, contrast with 1930s vintage tea dresses. Leopard print (a Kate Moss favorite) is one of a smattering of patterns, as the cross-generational capsule infuses classic party pieces with a contemporary drip.

The party girl image is one that goes back years and years and years. From the flappers of the 1920s to the hippie, teenage hell-raisers of the ’60s to the drug-fueled discos of the ’70s, the enduring party girl lives on. She is charming, a flurry of magnetic messiness and alluring anarchy. Her smoky eyes and slip dresses will remain staples for eternity, and the Kate Moss x Zara “party capsule” is here to usher in the next generation.

The Kate Moss for Zara collection will be available in select Zara stores and on zara.com from Saturday, November 30th.
