Chloé’s Spring Summer 2022 Calls back Flapper Dresses

Everything you need to know about Chloé’s show at Paris Fashion Week 2022

Chloé’s Spring Summer 2022 collection comes in an array of off-whites and pale yellows. It features a series of ankle length dresses and knit purses for city goers in the summer. The event took place along the banks of the Seine earlier today. This collection was created by Chloé’s artistic director Gabriela Hearst.

There were several drop waist dresses akin to the flapper dresses of the 1920’s. But Chloé reimagines this silhouette with ankle length skirts similar to those in the houses past collections, such as their Resort 2022 line. Similar cuts were seen in the combination of long shirts and pants. These shapes elongate the torso in a box-like combination.

Though this is not the first time Chloé has done it, this line reiterates the French fashion house’s love for tassels. Strings that lace together dresses contain several feet of give that ripple as clothes move. Other garments featured more traditional tassels tied at the ends that float along. Accessories were no different with colorful tassels attached to bags or being the center focus of earrings.

Another clear demarcation of the collection was chunky sandals. These came with thick soles, almost big enough to be considered platforms. They often came with a variety of lacing and straps that mimicked the elements of knitwear in the rest of the collection.

Many of the looks displayed straight line full-body silhouettes. As opposed to other design houses, Chloé stayed away from accentuating the waist, preferring long rectangular shapes. Much like the drop waists, this also calls back to the boyish cuts of the 1920’s. However, these straight lines were often paired with or set in contrast to flowing fabrics, which gave off hints of femininity.

This collection strives for comfort without sacrificing tailoring. With its focus on low impact materials for the environment and fair trade, Chloé has cute clothes that you can feel good about buying. For this show designer Gabriela Hearst strived to push eco-friendly creation. Compared with previous lines, SS 2022 has a stronger emphasis on hand crafted garments, and parts of the new line were upcycled from previous Chloé collections.

The overall line features on nature. Seashells are handwoven into garments for a beach appeal. Similarly, naturally sourced gemstones, including but not limited to amethyst and quartz, are woven throughout the collection
