Gentle Monster and Heron Preston Launch Eyewear Collab

The duo’s first eyewear partnership was inspired by workwear design and tools.

Gentle Monster and Heron Preston have teamed up to launch their first-ever eyewear collaboration, launching this week. The lineup was inspired by Preston’s signature bold workwear design, incorporating the idea of “spirit level” into the pieces.

The collection features three sunglasses in different color combinations along with an exclusive, limited-edition custom case. The bulky rectangular silhouette features a small level tool built into the left temple, in blue or green, along with a “0º” motif and Gentle Monster’s logo. The right temple features the signature Heron Preston logo and motifs against a wide bright orange background. 

The “Level 0” models come in three versions: Level 0 01(B) with black lenses; Level 0 C1 in clear lenses; and Level 0 NY1 in a navy gradient front. The frames are made in acetate and the glasses offer 100% UV protection.

The level first appeared in Preston’s collections built into the heel of his namesake label’s women’s boots. Since then, the designer and his team have been challenging themselves to think of different ways they could incorporate the level across various products, as he recalls in a press statement. 

“The shape and construction of sunglasses is the perfect platform for this idea,” Preston said. “The horizontal line that creates the temple on the side of the glasses directly relates to the line of a level. It was the perfect fit.”

Each piece will retail at $350. The collection drops on Thursday, July 29 worldwide at Gentle Monster and Heron Preston’s online and physical stores and global select retailers. The labels will also hold a special offline event in late July to celebrate their partnership.
