Long Awaited Dune Drops First Trailer

The new trailer for Dune has been released, showing off its superstar cast.

The first trailer for upcoming sci-fi flick Dune dropped yesterday. It featured lots of sand and lots of famous actors. The three minute clip quickly dominated the twitter-sphere, with frenzied comments on everything from giant worms to the return of wonderboy Timothee Chalamet.

Like all great science fiction dynasties, Dune has had many iterations, each bigger and more star-studded than the last. Dune (the 2020 version), directed by Denis Villeneuve, is a remake of Dune (the 1984 version), directed by David Lynch, which is based on a 1965 novel written by Frank Herbert. The latest adaption made headlines last year for casting seemingly every famous actor in Hollywood. The lineup includes Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and a number of other names audiences are likely to recognize.

Dune, the novel, is the story of a young boy, Paul Atreides. He lives on a planet insignificant in every way except for the fact that it is the only source of a highly coveted drug. “The spice” possesses the power to extend life and enhance mental capabilities. His father rules the planet, a precarious position, as Paul comes of age in a dangerous and unforgiving world.

The trailer shows Paul, played by Chalamet, mastering his own enhanced abilities, fostering a budding romance with Zendaya’s character Chani, and preparing to invade another planet. Oh, and of course, it shows a giant worm rising from the ground with an earth-trembling amount of force.
