MAC Cosmetics is officially stepping into a bold new chapter with the newly announced appointment of Nicola Formichetti as the brand’s Global Creative Director, effective immediately.
Known for shaping some of pop culture’s most iconic style moments with Lady Gaga and leading creative direction at fashion houses like Mugler and Diesel, Formichetti brings a genre-defying vision that blends art, identity, and innovation. Earlier this year, he also (officially) joined our V Magazine team as Fashion Director-at-Large, further extending his reach across fashion, editorial, and now beauty. With roots in Japan and Italy, his cross-cultural perspective closely aligns with M·A·C’s founding philosophy: “All Ages, All Races, All Genders.”

Founded in Toronto in 1984 by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo, MAC has evolved from a makeup artist’s favorite to a global beauty authority. Now part of the Estée Lauder Companies, the brand remains a leader in innovation and inclusivity, having raised over $500 million through its iconic Viva Glam initiative.
Having previously collaborated with MAC through his work with Lady Gaga and her Viva Glam campaign in 2011 and his own Nicopanda collection from 2018, Formichetti will oversee the global creative direction of the house, crafting everything from campaign storytelling and social content to product design, packaging, and immersive retail experiences. His appointment signals a shift in how the brand connects with culture and creativity, pushing beauty into new, expressive territory.
Under Formichetti’s direction, MAC is set to define what the future of beauty looks and feels like—through creativity, culture, and a global point of view.
