Marcell von Berlin’s Bright Spring/Summer 2022 Collection Pays Tribute to the 80s

The collection was full of power suits and dresses, honoring the time when women fully embraced the corporate workforce.

The Marcell von Berlin Spring/Summer 2022 womenswear and menswear 80s-inspired collection debuted last night at the James Goldstein Residence. Celebrities such as 24kGolden, Angelica Ross, Niecy Nash, Denzel Dion, Rickey Thompson, Toni Braxton, and Yung Miami attended the show in their own Marcell von Berlin clothing.

This collection pays tribute to the 80s, a decade full of women entering the workforce and, inevitably, the transpiring obsession with silhouettes that represent power. Inspired by this feminist outlook, Berlin designed clothing for the “power dresser,” the rebel, and the fashionista, aiming to empower women in every way, shape, and form. His goal for the collection’s theme was to be “bigger and bolder,” directly aligning with his oversized silhouettes and shoulder pads, serving as almost experimentation. He also wanted to reference the pop culture of the era, seen in his leather and denim pieces.

Besides having a variety of bold designs within it, the collection also includes the boldest of colors—bright green, coral, and orange—but also some pastel hues and darker colors. Some of his new designs include high-rise boyfriend jeans and high-rise wide-leg jeans. Additionally, there are several patterned power suits for all genders, long formalwear dresses with extra sparkles, mix-matched patterned tops and bottoms, and leather sets and dresses. Many of the designs highlight the shoulders, through either puffy or feathery sleeves, large shoulder pads, or completely bare shoulders.

Some of the best looks included gloves, like the dark green sleeveless blazer-trouser pair with bright pink gloves and the leather dress with matching leather gloves. Other standout looks were the gray dress with a slit up the leg and one accentuated shoulder sleeve, the indigo overcoat with a bralette and trousers and psychedelic boots, the plaid blazer-skirt set with white fishnet tights and white boots that gave us all of the Clueless vibes, and the plaid blazer over the orange printed dress and boots, completely mixing and matching patterns.

“The Spring/Summer 2022 Collection is a lot about shape, silhouettes and volume,” Marcell von Berlin said. “I was inspired one of the most eclectic decades in fashion. From shoulder pads, power suits, puffy sleeves and high-waisted jeans—my old favorites are back again.”
