Margiela Collabs with Reebok on Iconic Tabi

Margiela has teamed up with Reebok for the sneaker collaboration of your dreams.

Maison Margiela has teamed up with mega-brand Reebok to create the ultimate fashion-sneaker, the Tabi Instapump Fury. The highly collectible new style is a hybrid of the most iconic design elements from the two collaborators: Reebok’s trailblazing sneaker from 1994, the Instapump Fury, and Maison Margiela’s signature Tabi from 1988. First appearing in Margelia’s 1988 debut show the split-toe boot has become synonymous with the fashion house. The Tabi boot is what tweed is to Chanel and what corsets are to Gaultier.

Inspired by traditional Japanese footwear, the iconic shoe has appeared on the Margiela runway season after season. In 2015 the Belgian designer said that he, “wanted to create an ‘invisible’ shoe, the illusion of a bare foot walking on a high, chunky heel.” He also commented that “the Tabi boot is the most important footprint of my career: it’s recognizable, it still goes on after 25 years, and it has never been copied”. Recently under the creative direction of John Galliano, the Tabi boot has been redesigned for men, and is still favored by 90s cool girl Chloë Sevigny, and worn by Rihanna. This new collaboration pays homage to both Margiela’s original design and Rebook’s unique aesthetic.

The eight-piece collection comes in two heights, one flat-heeled version and another with a chunky, block heel. The hybrid sneaker-boots are available in four colorways. They come in all-black or all-white (very Margiela) while renditions composed from yellow, black and red, or white, blue, and red pay respect to Reebok’s original sneaker.

The Maison Margiela x Reebok collection drops on Wednesday, September 23rd. The shoes will launch in-store and online, and styles range from $1150-$1490.
