Michael Kors Fall 2020 Recap

Kors presented a ladylike collection, that’s sophisticated with a touch of the Old West and ’70s glam.

The set evoked a huge barn house, complete with faux-windows and wooden benches for the excited guest. The show opened with a 5 piece country western band playing live music. As the first model took to the runway it light up and the band played a medley of hits including Dolly Parton’s, “I will always love you”.

The collection was all about luxe, heritage and understated glamour. There were references to the 1970’s, the Wild West but also a nod to country homes and English aristocracy. Horse riding was another big inspiration as the collection featured riding coats, slim-fit pants that looked like jumpers and, most looks were paired with riding boots. The equestrian theme continued with dresses, plaid blanket-like gowns were finished with interesting necklines. Belt-like straps were reminiscent of (horse) bridles and saddles.

Kors also presented a hybrid of coats with caps, chunky knitwear, layering and suede fringing. The collections featured tweeds, plaids, denim, cow and sheep-hides. There was also a retro-glam feel to the looks shown in paisley prints. There were spurts of color with citrus orange, yellow, and reds. A hint of military was seen with olive fabric, epaulettes, and double-breasted jackets.

Standout pieces were a gold cap-dress, which stopper above the knee, a yellow Peter Pan collar coat, a cowhide cropped jacket, and an asymmetrical pleated black skirt teamed with fitted jacket. The tailoring was clean and the use of fabrics heightened the sense of luxury. Other big moments came at the end of the show with a series of evening dresses in array of sparkly/metallic fabrics. some dresses were layered with coats while others played with transparency.

There was a big focus on accessories, with variations of riding boots and holdalls on display. Kors also gave an interesting take on belts, doubling them at the waist which added an extra layer of excitement.

In attendance were Ashley Benson, and Blake Lively, while Models, Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber, and Adut Akech walked the runway. Bella lead the finale walk, with Kors following in a quick sprint around the runway as he waved to an applauding audience.
