Governor’s Ball Announces ‘More Realistic’ Dates For 2021

The festival is scheduled to take place September 24 – 26.

Although last year’s Governor’s Ball was canceled, it seems that the live music event will be making a comeback this year to Randall’s Island on September 24, 25, and 26. That is, depending on the government’s vaccination rollout and the safety guidelines set in place by that time.

Details regarding the lineup for this year’s event remain up in the air, but according to the Gov Ball’s FAQ page they will be revealed in the coming months. What we do know is that the lineup will be totally different from last year’s. Artists that were set to perform at the 2020 Governor’s Ball included Tame Impala, Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Solange, Flume, Vampire Weekend and more.

“We’ve decided to move the 2021 show to a time of year that is both more realistic and safer for all,” said festival producer Founders Entertainment in a release. “And while there are still question marks and unknowns in the World, rest assured that we are working closely with City and State authorities to ensure that the next Gov Ball will be a safe and amazing experience.”

Still, Governor’s Ball remains “hopeful” banking on the vaccination rollout and experts’ prediction of a return to live music events in the Fall. Founders Entertainment expects Governor’s Ball to return to its normal June date in 2022.

More information will be revealed in the coming months. Those who purchased a pass for 2020’s canceled event can either choose to attend this year’s event (if it pushes through) or opt for a refund before January 27,2021. In the event that this year’s festival is canceled, attendees who have purchased passes will be eligible for refunds.
